This World Is at War
Ephesians 6:10–20
As we wrapped up our study in Ephesians, Paul gives one final command: “Be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might.”
The reason is clear:
This world is at war.
This isn’t just something we see in culture or headlines—it’s something Scripture makes unmistakably clear. Beneath everything else, there is a real and ongoing spiritual battle.
Whose side are you on?
According to Paul, there are only two sides. We are either on God’s side through faith in Jesus Christ, or we remain on the devil’s side by default.
That may feel uncomfortable, but it clarifies reality. Satan doesn’t need people to openly follow him—he simply needs them not to trust Jesus. His work is deception and destruction.
God, on the other hand, offers truth, life, joy, and holiness. And through Jesus, He makes a way for us to move from death to life:
“By grace you have been saved through faith.”
Are you standing strong or drifting along?
The world has a current—and it pulls us away from Jesus.
Drifting requires nothing. Standing strong requires dependence on God.
A helpful question for all of us:
Am I standing strong right now, or am I drifting?
And just as important:
Which direction am I moving?
How do we stand strong?
Paul doesn’t tell us to rely on ourselves. He points us to what God provides.
God’s Power
Jesus has already defeated Satan through His death and resurrection. The outcome of the war is decided—but the battle is still active. That’s why we must rely on God’s strength, not our own.
God’s Purpose
God’s purpose is to unite all things in Christ—more people trusting Him, and more transformation in those who already do. Satan’s schemes aim to disrupt that through temptation and accusation.
God’s Provision
God gives us everything we need to stand: truth, righteousness, the gospel, faith, salvation, and His Word.
Armor is for warriors. And whether we like it or not, we are in a war.
The Gospel at the Center
At the heart of it all is this:
God didn’t just give us armor—He gave us a Savior.
Satan deceives and devours. Jesus saves, forgives, and restores.
This world is at war—but in Christ, we have everything we need to stand strong.
