We Can Trust God’s Promises

Lifegroup Guide — Luke 1:26–38; 46–55
Big Idea: We can trust God’s promises.
Question: Are you walking in faith?

Warm-Up

  • What’s one promise you’ve made (or had made to you) that was hard to trust until it was actually kept?
  • When life feels uncertain or stressful, what do you tend to default to: control, avoidance, anxiety, or prayer?

Read

  • Luke 1:26–38
  • Luke 1:46–55

Observation

  • What does Gabriel say about who Jesus is and what He will do?
  • What role does the Holy Spirit play in this passage?
  • What repeated themes or ideas do you notice in Mary’s song (the Magnificat)?

Interpretation

  • What does this passage show us about God’s initiative in salvation?
  • How do you see the Father, Son, and Spirit at work together in these verses?
  • Why is Mary’s question (“How will this be?”) different from disbelief or doubt?
  • In the Magnificat, how does Mary connect her personal story to God’s promises throughout Scripture?

Application

  • Where are you currently tempted to distrust God’s promises or rely on yourself instead of Him?
  • What might “faith-filled curiosity” look like for you right now (asking honest questions while still trusting God)?
  • What would “faith-filled obedience” look like this week — a specific step of surrender or trust?
  • What would “faith-filled joy” look like this week, even before circumstances change?

Prayer

  • Thank God for taking the initiative to save — the Father sending, the Spirit empowering, and the Son coming.
  • Ask God to help you trust His promises and walk by faith.
  • Pray for courage to obey God, even when obedience feels costly or unclear.

Memory Verse

Luke 1:37 — “For nothing will be impossible with God.”
