Will You Stand in Your Place?

This past Sunday, we concluded our journey through the book of Daniel by looking at Daniel 12.

Every single one of us has a birthday, and every single one of us has a death day. While none of us knows exactly where we currently sit on that timeline, deep down we all share a sense that something comes after this life, whether happy or sad. The glorious news of the Gospel is that God hasn’t left us in the dark. He has explicitly told us what awaits.

If you missed Sunday’s message or want to revisit it, here are the core truths we anchored ourselves in:

1. Suffering Has a Boundary

Daniel 12 speaks of a time of trouble, symbolized by a limited period (three and a half years). Whatever trials or suffering we face in this life, we can rest knowing they are never outside of God’s control. They are bounded by His sovereign hand for a defined degree and a defined time. Evil does not get the final word.

2. After That: The Reality of Eternity

What happens after our earthly timeline ends? Daniel 12 points directly to the resurrection of the dead. Eternity is at stake: some awake to everlasting life, and others to shame and everlasting contempt.

Our names are not written in the Lamb’s Book of Life through our own merit or good works, but solely through faith in Jesus Christ, he Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world. Because of His death and resurrection, our eternal destination is secure.

3. Living as the “Wise” Today

Because our future in Christ is certain, Daniel 12 gives us two clear mandates for how we live right now:

  • Turn Many to Righteousness: The text tells us that the wise will shine like stars as they turn others to righteousness. We are called to active evangelism. Who is your ONE? Who in your sphere of influence needs to hear the hope of the Gospel?
  • Purify Yourself: True faith changes how we live. We are called to line up our behavior with our faith through public worship, daily time in God’s Word, prayer, and quick repentance.

The Ultimate Hope

God’s final promise to Daniel was simple and profound: “Go your way till the end. You will rest, and then at the end of the days you will rise to receive your allotted inheritance.”

Because of Jesus, that same promise belongs to you. When your earthly journey ends, whenever that day comes, you can step into God’s rest and take your place in the New Heavens and the New Earth.
