1. Vibrant Faith: Habits and Moments

• Habits: Daniel maintained a daily discipline of getting on his knees three times a day to pray and give thanks to God toward Jerusalem. A vibrant faith is cultivated through intentional daily routines of prayer and spending time in God’s Word.
• Moments: Daniel faced a critical moment of choosing faith over death. While our tests may not carry a physical death penalty, we routinely face decision points choosing faith over power, pleasure, or comfort.

2. Visible Faith: Routine and Risk

• Routine: Daniel’s faith was so integrated into his everyday life that his accusers knew the only way to trap him was through the law of his God. Our faith should be clearly observable to co-workers, family, and neighbors.
• Risk: Faith must not be reduced strictly to “books and buildings” (isolated quiet times and Sunday services). Genuine faith involves spiritual risk—such as reaching out to “your one” who doesn’t know Jesus.

3. Verified Faith: Pointing to Jesus

• Parallel to the Gospel: Daniel’s story mirrors the Gospel narrative—a righteous man target of envious leaders, condemned by a reluctant ruler, sealed behind a stone, and delivered unharmed.
• The Empty Tomb: Just as the stone was rolled away to reveal Daniel’s survival, Christ’s stone was rolled away so we could see into the empty tomb.
• Christ Our Substitute: We naturally resemble the guilty, sinful accusers who deserved judgment rather than righteous Daniel. Jesus was “thrown to the lions” on our behalf on the cross so that we could be forgiven and set free.
